Hi, I’m Marilee
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and the founder of Rooted Counseling. I bring both personal and clinical experience to therapy, so I understand what it’s like to feel unseen, navigate a world that doesn’t always feel built for you, and carry patterns learned over a lifetime.
I started seeing clients in 2021 and opened my private practice in 2023. Before that, I worked in children’s advocacy centers, trauma-focused settings, and community mental health. Now, I see clients exclusively through telehealth, which allows you to control your environment—bringing pets, using fidgets, or setting up your space in whatever way helps you feel safe and focused.
I am also a mother to two boys, one of whom was born at 23 weeks. This experience gives me a deep understanding of the challenges parents face during prolonged NICU stays and the emotional and physical toll of caring for a fragile newborn.
I am a compassionate, humanistic therapist, but more importantly, I am a fellow human who cares deeply about your experiences and story. I believe healing happens in the context of relationships, and I work to create a safe, accepting space where you can feel fully known and understood. Together, we explore your emotions, beliefs, and patterns so you can connect more deeply with yourself and start living in alignment with who you truly are.
Outside of therapy, I’m passionate about climate justice and environmental care. My husband and I run a small compost company and stay involved in our local community in the foothills of western North Carolina. In my free time, I enjoy hobbies that keep me present, like baking sourdough, gardening, hiking and exploring trails in the Appalachian Mountains, spending time with my family, and reading. I bring that same curiosity, care, and commitment to supporting people in therapy. My goal is to provide a space where everyone can feel safe, valued, and genuinely cared for.
